  • Is a robot included in the price? If so, when will I receive it?

    Yes, an Arduino Alvik robot is included in the price and will ship to you in about 5-7 business days after your purchase date.

  • Is the robot ours to keep?

    Yes, the robot is yours to keep and continue exploring the cool world of robotics.

  • What computer is needed?

    A Windows 11 or Apple MacOS computer is needed. Example video demonstrations are done on a Windows 11 computer.

  • Will other supplies be needed?

    Yes, but they should be relatively inexpensive items many of which are common household items. Examples of supplies used in the projects are: poster board, 2cm wide black tape, Blue painters tape, construction paper, a ruler, etc. Depending on your laptop you may also need a USB-A to USB-C cable or adapter. The robot comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable.

  • What does my child need to know to complete the class?

    This online course has been designed for beginners.  The recommended age is 5th grade and up.   At a minimum your student should have covered the following topics:

    • Addition and Subtraction
    • Multiplication and Division
    • Decimal notation and place value
    • Fractions
    • Simple geometric formulas (area of squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles)
    • Understand degrees in a circle, diameter, and radius


    Skills that are helpful are:

    • Basic typing skills.
    • Ability to open and save files on a computer.
    • Exposure to cartesian coordinates. This is helpful, but this course assumes the student is learning coordinates for the first time.
  • Is this a live or virtual class? If I sign up late, can I still access all lessons?

    This class is composed of pre-recorded video lessons release on a weekly basis. If you sign up late, all lessons are still accessible. You may start at the beginning and continue working thru each lesson for the duration of your course access.

  • How much time will this require from me as a parent?

    Once you set up a login for your student, they can log in and begin working through the video lessons in sequence as they are released. The course keeps track of their progress, and will automatically return them to the lesson where they left off. No need to create lesson plans. Most students can utilize the lessons with minimal supervision from a teacher. Supplies needed for a lesson will be listed at the beginning of the lesson or in an assignment itself.

  • Will I need to buy any additional software?

    No. The Arduino software used in this course is freely available.

  • Is there a warranty on the robot?

    Arduino Alvik robots have a 1-year manufacturer's warranty. If you received a defective product, contact us at [email protected] and we can assist you with the warranty claim. Any shipping cost for warranty returns will be the customer's responsibility. Manufacturer's warranty will not cover items that were misused, abused, or altered. Homeschool Code Academy does not provide any additional warranty of the robots beyond what the manufacturer provides.
